FORSYS Project: Quantitative analysis of bacterial gene regulation by small RNAs

Small RNAs are an aspiring group of tiny but mighty regulators playing a role in various organisms. Even bacteria harbour a significant number of small regulatory RNAs (sRNA). We study the quantitative role of sRNAs in signal transduction and regulatory networks. sRNA and mRNA as well as sRNA and protein interactions are analysed on the basis of exemplar systems using tightly combined theoretical and experimental approaches. We employ sRNA-model systems of cyanobacteria as these organisms will play an important role for the future regarding production of clean and sustainable energy.
