INTRODUCTION Descent source is released under the BSD license. Descent requires Python 2.2.2 (www.python.org), wxPython 2.4.1.2 (www.wxpython.org), and Numeric 23 (www.pfdubois.com/numpy/) to run. It may or may not run with earlier or later versions of these software packages. Python, wxPython, and Numeric are available on Windows, MacOS X, and Linux. Descent was developed on Windows, and this distribution has been packaged to run on Windows without requiring a separate installation of either Python, wxPython, or Numeric. If Python, wxPython, and Numeric have been installed, Descent should also run on MacOS X and Linux unaltered, or perhaps with only minor alterations, but it has not been tested on either platform; the GUI code might have to be altered to achieve an acceptable layout of windows and controls. DESCENT FILES Descent.py: This file contains the GUI code. relate.py: This file contains the kinship statistics code. CustomDataTable.py: This file defines the classes to store and display tables of data and results; it also contains some basic error checking code. The files in the included help directory are also required to run Descent. The index.html file is a standard HTML file, and the other files are GIF images. OTHER FILES wxPyPlot (included) cvisual.dll (included) orngMDS.py (included) PyPedal files (included) ******************************************************************************* Descent License: Copyright (c) 2000-2004, Edward H.
